As a hair and makeup artist, I quite often found myself in situations where stylists did not show up to fashion shows or shoots. I felt that I had an eye for detail but lacked the confidence to put it into action. So I decided to enrol in The Professional Photo, Film, TV & Personal Stylist’s Course offered by the Australian College of Professional.
I loved that the course could be completed at my own pace, in my own space. I was running my own business and I would never have been able to complete the course if I had to attend regular classes. I always found the College helpful and loved waiting to receive my tutor’s feedback after each of my assignment submissions. The course content was so thorough and ahead of its time in terms of discussing forthcoming fashion trends, colours to name a few.
Once I finished the course, I was able to use my skills in a shoot where I did the hair, makeup and styled the shots for a photographer who was visiting Melbourne. He works on the London Fashion week and NYFW. It was such a great honour to work with him! I have also been lucky enough to have styled and assisted in styling various clothing shows for MSFW.
The course has given me the confidence to incorporate styling into my business while also giving me a more in depth insight into the industry. The course also allowed me to look at various areas of styling that I hadn’t thought about pursuing and I felt so inspired that I set up my business, Makeup Style Melbourne, which covers hair, makeup and styling.
My mum and sister are also very happy to have their own personal wardrobe organiser in the family now!
The course was very affordable and well worth the cost. Anyone who is thinking of undertaking the course and is undecided, I would say ‘just do it’. If you have a love for clothes, fashion and colour, I believe the information will be handy on a day to day basis even if you don’t end up pursuing a career as a stylist. You owe it to yourself to do something for yourself. I would highly recommend the course to everyone!
