Course Developer – Katharine Morris

The course itself has been developed by Katharine Morris. Katharine has worked in all areas of professional styling. Commencing in wardrobe for the Channel 7 Network, Katharine later worked as an assistant fashion director and then as chief stylist in such areas as photo styling, personal styling, film and television shoots, fashion parades and live concerts and broadcasts.

Katharine Morris previously attended, Sydney College of the Arts to study Object Arts & Design. She also completed a full-time Certificate IV in Clothing Production at TAFE. Her other academic studies include: New York University – University’s Summer Programme, Film study at Tisch School of the Arts, completed Sight and Sound within the undergraduate program, and achieved the highest possible marks. She has also attended the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, Sydney (NIDA), Special Effects & Props. Set & Costume Design. Australian Film, Television & Radio School (AFTRS), Art Direction, a selective course for people working within the industry.

Katharine has styled for a large range of ‘talent’ including Deborra-Lee Furness, Kate Ritchie, Ernie Dingo, Grant Denyer, Tom Williams, Jennifer Hawkins, Paris Hilton and Nicole Kidman.

Her film and television styling experience has seen her work on a variety of programmes including Dancing with the Stars, Home & Away, All Saints, Sunrise, Channel 7’s News & Current Affairs and live events such as Carols in the Domain and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. She has also styled for premieres, product launches and national events such as the Phantom of the Opera, the Venice Film Festival and Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival. She has styled celebrities for years on red-carpet events such as the Logie Awards, MTV Music and Aria Award ceremonies. Her advertising clients have included Telstra, the Commonwealth Bank and Coca-Cola among many others.

A professional stylist, currently working within the industry and familiar with your styling interests, is assigned as your tutor to assist you throughout the course. It is a condition of College employment that your tutor is a successful, top-notch working professional.

You and your tutor work together to develop ideas and material relating specifically to the areas of styling work that most interest you.

This might include such work as:

Fashion styling, wardrobe styling, film production, theatre and television, product and food styling, magazine advertising, catalogue and other print-media styling, and image consultancy, personal shopping, visual merchandising, colour analysis and styling for Internet editorial and advertising.

It’s your tutor’s job to assess your assignments, develop your styling skills and bring you to an appropriate level of professionalism.
